Educators demonstrate a broad knowledge base and an understanding of areas they teach.
It feels like my knowledge base and understanding of English has been developing since I was a young child and first fell in love with books. Ever since, Literature has been a favorite pastime of mine and has guided and changed my entire life. During my time in post secondary education I have received both a Criminology Diploma and a Bachelor of the Arts in English. I continue to expand my knowledge base within these areas on a daily basis and work to remain current with important developments and literary works.
This knowledge becomes evident in my teaching where I explore material in deep and nuanced ways, linking various works and formats together to create engaging learning for the students that they can understand. Examples of this can be the linking of classical literature like Shakespeare’s sonnets to modern poetic styles such as songwriting. I have also explored classics like Lord of the Flies and Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven” through modern interpretations compared to both the original text and older interpretations. We also look at modern works that could be comparable to these classic works.

Along with expanding my knowledge of English, where I am very comfortable, I have been trying to explore and deepen my knowledge of areas I hope to one day teach, such as Drama, Art, and Visual Arts/Photography/Media Arts.
